Directions

Step 1: Prepare Ice Cream Base

To make vanilla and strawberry ice cream base, place saucepan over medium heat. Pour milk and bring it to just under boiling point (do not let it boil). In a large bowl, add sugar and egg yolks. Whisk together until thoroughly combined. Then slowly add heated milk to the egg yolks mixture, a little at a time and whisk constantly. Pour mixture back into the saucepan over medium heat and gently allow it to thicken, for about 5 minutes, while continuously stirring. Remove ice cream base from the heat and allow it to cool down.

Step 2: Make Vanilla And Strawberry Ice Cream

To make vanilla and strawberry ice cream, divide ice cream base into two large bowls. For vanilla ice cream, add double cream, vanilla extract into one bowl and mix it well. For strawberry ice cream, add heavy cream, vanilla extract, strawberry puree and mix well. To crunch both ice creams, pour vanilla ice cream mixture and strawberry ice cream mixture into the ice cream maker duo and churn for roughly 20 minutes. After churning, transfer vanilla ice cream and strawberry ice cream into ice cream containers. Place it in the freezer until it is harder for 3 hours or overnight.

Step 3: Make Chocolate Ice Cream

To make chocolate ice cream, add unsweetened cocoa powder, half and half cream, heavy cream and whisk to combine. Place saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture just to a simmer, stirring occasionally. In a large bowl, add sugar, egg yolks and whisk together until thoroughly combined. Then slowly add cream mixture to the egg yolks mixture a little at a time and whisk constantly. Pour ice cream mixture back into the saucepan over medium heat and gently allow it to thicken, continuously stirring. Remove ice cream mixture from the heat and pour it into a large bowl and allow it to sit at room temperature for 30 minutes. Then add vanilla extract and stir it well. Place ice cream mixture into the refrigerator for 4 to 8 hours. Pour chocolate ice cream mixture into the ice cream maker and churn for roughly 20 minutes. After churning, transfer chocolate ice cream into ice cream container. Place it in the freezer until it sets, for about 3 to 4 hours or overnight.

Step 4: Assemble Banana Split

To assemble banana split, arrange two banana pieces side by side, with a gap in-between on the serving dish. Take a scoop of vanilla ice cream and place it in the centre, over the two banana pieces. Next, put a scoop of chocolate ice cream. Place it on one side of the vanilla ice cream and then strawberry on the other side, running down the length of the banana. Squeeze a little caramel sauce over the top of the chocolate ice cream. Drizzle chocolate sauce over the vanilla ice cream and lastly strawberry sauce over the strawberry ice cream. Put a whipped cream dollop onto each of the ice cream scoops. Sprinkle some chopped hazelnut, chopped pecan, colorful sprinkles onto each whipped cream. Place a glace cherry on the very top of each ice cream scoops. Your Banana Split is ready to eat, yummy!
